On Monday, the White House said that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad may be planning to carry out another chemical weapons attack in the country, adding that the regime will “pay a heavy price” if it follows through. The Trump Adminsitration wants the Syrian Regime and ISIS fighters to pay the heaviest price for prolonging the Syrian civil war.
“Our strategy right now is to accelerate the campaign against ISIS,” Secretary of Defense James Mattis on Face the Nation last month. “We have already shifted from attrition tactics where we shove them from one position to another in Iraq and Syria, to annihilation tactics where we surround them.”
