Theresa May praised Sadiq Khan’s response to the London Bridge terror attack – but declined to publicly admonish Donald Trump over his remarks on the Mayor.
The Prime Minister said Mr Khan is doing an “excellent job” in the wake of the atrocity in which seven people were killed on Saturday night.
Mr Trump sparked a row as he tweeted criticism of London’s Mayor over his response to the attack.
The US President wrote: “At least 7 dead and 48 wounded in terror attack and Mayor of London says there is ‘no reason to be alarmed!’”
Mr Khan’s statement appeared to have been taken out of context by Mr Trump. The Mayor had said: “Londoners will see an increased police presence today and over the course of the next few days.
“There’s no reason to be alarmed.”
