The plane crashed due to lack of fuel at around 10:15pm local time in Cerro Gordo in the municipality of La Union, according to Mi Oriente.
The website reported that fatalities had occurred, but said it remains unclear how many people were killed.
At least 10 people were injured and evacuated from the scene, the commander of La Union fire department said, according to the website.
The plane, operated by airline Lamia, was reportedly carrying 72 passengers and nine crew members. It was flying to José María Córdova International Airport in Rionegro, the second largest airport in Colombia.
The country’s civil aviation authority has set up a unified command post at the airport, El Universo reported. 
Access to the crash site can only be reached by land due to current weather conditions, the airport wrote on Twitter.
